The tiny fishing village of Mortsund is this year´s seminar location.
The yearly cod migration to the waters surrounding Lofoten has been the foundation of all the small fishing villages like Mortsund. Even though the road to Mortsund was not finished until the early 1920´s, we know that many fishermans cottages where found here towards the end of the 19th century. Settlements and trade was also ongoing on the small islands outside Mortsund all the way back to the 16th century.
In 2019 Mortsund is a kind of miniature model of the new Lofoten. The Statle family that since 1950 were fish traders and producers of stockfisk and fish oil in Mortsund, are now the owners of one of the largest “rorbu-sites” in Lofoten, and are fully invested in tourism. In the same place Brit and Roger Mosseng started salmon farming as early as 1980, and 39 years later they are still going strong. With their company Lofoten Seafood they are producers of salmon as well as traditional salted cod and stockfish.
